Mechanical Shaker System

The box set will be shaken using a computer controlled electromechanical system that allows for control of both the amplitude and frequency of shaking motion of the box set. A side view of this system is shown schematically in figure 2. The operation is two-fold; a DC motor attached to a crank provides oscillatory motion to one end of a steel shaft. This motor is placed on a sliding table whose position is controlled by a linear actuator. The actuator allows for modification of the length of a level arm attached to the DC motor. By changing the length of the lever arm we are able to adjust the resulting amplitude of oscillation of a second sliding table that carries the box set.
